| Faculty and Researchers with STS Interests - ProfileMarion Fourcade-Gourinchas Email: fourcade@berkeley.edu Marion Fourcade-Gourinchas is interested in how political cultures and institutions constitute how individuals in different countries understand what they do and who they are. She is currently completing a book on the historical trajectories and transformations of economics as a discipline and profession in the United States, Great Britain and France since the end of the nineteenth century, Economists and Societies. Other work deals with transitions to neo-liberal economic policies in Europe and Latin America (with Sarah Babb), and varying forms of civic engagement and political strategies across nations (with Evan Schofer). Professor Fourcade-Gourinchas' new research, tentatively titled Price and Prejudice: An Inquiry into the Social Construction of Value continues her long-standing interest for the social construction of economic representations across nations. Through an in-depth study of the valuation of ecological damage in two landmark pollution cases in France and the United States, this work seeks to analyze the cultural and technological dimensions of the relationship between subjective valuation and objective (monetary) valuation.
