
| Faculty and Researchers with STS Interests - ProfileRichard Norgaard Email: norgaard@berkeley.edu Richard Norgaard's research emphasizes the contradictions between neoclassical economic theory and biological and social science understandings of nature and society, how the resolution of complex socio-environmental problems challenges modern beliefs about science and policy processes; and development as a process of coevolution between value, knowledge, technological, organizational, and environmental systems. His writing is informed through work on energy, environment, and development issues around the globe¬ but especially Alaska, Brazil, and California. He currently serves on the Independent Science Board of CALFED (California Bay-Delta Authority) and on the Board of Directors of the American Institute of Biological Sciences, Redefining Progress, and EcoEquity. He has served as President of the International Society for Ecological Economics, on the Science Advisory Board of the U.S. EPA, as a member of the U.S. committee of the Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (SCOPE), on numerous panels of the National Research Council, the former Office of Technology Assessment, and in other state and federal advisory capacities.
