Cathryn Carson works on the history of the physical sciences, broadly defined and mostly since World War II. Her first project dealt with the physicist Heisenberg as an indicator for the changing public role of science in Germany since 1945. She has begun a second project on the history of the science behind nuclear waste management, and she has long-term interests in the history of research administration, including in universities like Berkeley.
