Alternative Global Energy

In parallel with UC Berkeley’s new Energy Biosciences Institute (EBI), and supported by the Chancellor and Provost, STSC will be running a series of events giving a broad perspective on the social embedding of alternative energy research and potential. We will be focusing in particular on:

• Comprehensive assessment of local and global environmental impact of different energy strategies
• North-South Equity
• Impact on US rural communities
• Intersections with food supply
• Security concerns (trade-offs in moving to post fossil fuel energy regime) related to post-fossil fuel energy regimes, including weapons potential
• Inclusion and access to alternative energy R&D and the benefits of cleaner energy technologies [in conjunction with our community partner, the Greenlining Institute]
• Scientific Uncertainty and Global Climate Change
